The Future ⌛
I am working diligently on two series. Let’s first talk about Alone Together.
Alone Together is the series I’ve wanted to write since I was a kid riding bikes in Nevada. This enthusiasm has been tailored and changed to meet a modern audience. This means I have had to look at tropes within the genre and decide which ones I want to avoid. I have also had to craft a spanning storyline that extends beyond a single book. Even more so, I have had to craft and create characters we all will care about. I have my first book’s manuscript complete, and I am now in the process of reworking certain parts. I have a draft in progress for book two so that the release time between the stories will not be extensive.
But what can we expect from the story? First, as always, there will be short stories to compliment the series. In fact, some of them are already on my blog, like the Last Stand series. These stories will be a little closer to each other, with events happening in the short stories having direct impact on the book series. The series will expand across years, and if there’s sufficient interest, I’ll include spin-off series. The initial setting will be in… Tallahassee, Florida! Across the series, the entire country will be included, but all great things have small beginnings. I want a very personal story, and I want it to have a home grown feeling to it. What better way than to base the start off the very city in which I reside?
Staying true to my favorite genre, it will be heavily horror based—technically you could call the series an Apocalyptic Thriller, but I’m not here to be the category expert. Lastly, while not an extension for A Fold to Extinction, they are in the same universe. I needed a “how” for the events that transpire, and I saw it in the work I did on The Ranch series. Originally, The Ranch series was a little follow up to A Fold to Extinction. As I was writing it, I was drafting ideas for Alone Together. This impacted the process so heavily; you can rightfully consider The Ranch a start to Alone Together.
I can’t promise releases and dates, but if things go our way, we can see Alone Together sometime in the next year.
Now, my other series, and a departure from my usual work.
I am drafting the start to a Dark Fantasy series. As of right now, I only intend for it to be a trilogy, but I don’t see the end in sight currently. I have 80% of the first book’s manuscript complete. It has become a very large undertaking, and I have found I appreciate fantasy writers more because of the extensive work I have had to put in. I wanted to combine the epic story telling we see in traditional fantasy, with a time period that is rarely portrayed.
Can you guess the time period? It’s the late 1600s. While not completely based on reality, hence being fantasy, I wanted to stir the realities of a harsh colonial life, with the geo-political struggles of expanding empires, and dash it with magic, prophecies, and creepy races. As of right now, there are more characters in the just the first book than both Sinner’s Pass and A Fold to Extinction combined (yes, that includes the expanded short stories).
I really want to talk more about this series and my plans, but it’s so far in the future, it could all change. Right now, I am not even sure I would be able to give a year when I plan to release book one. I also do not want to release books in a series too far apart, so this magical story telling is still brewing.
Sinner’s Pass: Storyline
I am all about creating lore and background to events in novels. It’s one of the best things about fandoms to me. It’s why I write the short stories the way I do. It’s fun on different fronts. For loyal fans, you know the stories beforehand and get to connect them to the final event (the novel). For newcomers, hopefully, they stumble upon my stories and reveal the deeper background that exists for the worlds I craft.
So, is there an order that matters? By story alone, no. You can read the novel and/or the shorts in whatever order you wish. If you really like continuity, then Hunted is the first story, followed by Hero’s Downfall, then The Offering, ending with the novel, Sinner’s Pass.
Wouldn’t Sinner’s Pass make a great horror book to gift to your favorite horror lover in your life?
